IAA West Names Barrett 2010 President; SanDisk Advertising Head Brings More Than 15 Years Experience to New Position

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 17, 2010 – Jane Barrett, Global Head of Advertising for SanDisk Corporation has been appointed president of the western chapter of the International Advertising Association (IAA West).  Ms. Barrett was unanimously elected to her new role by the IAA West Board of Directors for her strong ability to lead and inspire the strategic partnership of advertisers, agencies, the media and related services. She replaces former IAA President Laurie Hironaka, West Coast Advertising  Manager of Topix, who served in the role for four years.

In making the announcement, Laurie Hironaka, former president of IAA West, said, “We are honored and fortunate to welcome Jane to the role of president and a member of board of IAA West.  She has a wealth of experience on both the corporate and agency side of the business and will provide strong leadership in continuing to build IAA West and its professional development and networking programs to benefit the Bay Area advertising community.”

Ms. Barrett joined SanDisk in 2007 as global head of advertising in the Corporate Marketing Group. She has more than 15 years experience in advertising and marketing fields serving in a variety of global positions with Intel in the U.S., Germany and Russia; and with Grey Advertising in London and Young & Rubicam in London.   She is a graduate of Anglia Ruskin University.

Laurie Hironaka, who has ably served as president of IAA West for four years, will become vice president of events.  She has served as West Coast Ad Manager for Topix since 2007 and previously served as the San Francisco Advertising Manager for The Economist magazine for more than ten years.  She also served in sales management roles with Time Inc. and the Readers Digest.  She is a graduate of Ohio University in Journalism and Advertising.

The Daily Californian

NATIONAL ADVERTISING MANAGER - The Daily Californian, the 10,000-circ. independent, student-run newspaper serving the UC Berkeley campus and its surrounding community, is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to achieve national advertising revenue objectives, and diversify the agency and client base in this ad category. Revenue is critical to the Daily Cal so the national ad manger must be able to ramp up fast and close deals quickly. Essential functions include keeping the company abreast of industry developments and best practices. Professional growth opportunities include participation in company-wide strategic planning initiatives and university network associations.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently while effectively managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Knowledge of the 18-24-year-old demographic is a plus, as is experience in San Francisco Bay Area media sales.

Experience required: 10 years media sales management experience in a fast-paced work environment. Strong track record of sales achievement.

Skills required: MS office suite, Internet, Red Books data base usage. Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication ability.

Compensation consists of a base salary and percentage of sales with an upside potential for any sales goals that are exceeded. This is a part-time position requiring at least 25 hours per week. The job allows for work from a home office with regular meetings conducted in person or by Skype.
