NATIONAL ADVERTISING MANAGER - The Daily Californian, the 10,000-circ. independent, student-run newspaper serving the UC Berkeley campus and its surrounding community, is seeking a highly motivated self-starter to achieve national advertising revenue objectives, and diversify the agency and client base in this ad category. Revenue is critical to the Daily Cal so the national ad manger must be able to ramp up fast and close deals quickly. Essential functions include keeping the company abreast of industry developments and best practices. Professional growth opportunities include participation in company-wide strategic planning initiatives and university network associations.

The ideal candidate will be able to work independently while effectively managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Knowledge of the 18-24-year-old demographic is a plus, as is experience in San Francisco Bay Area media sales.

Experience required: 10 years media sales management experience in a fast-paced work environment. Strong track record of sales achievement.

Skills required: MS office suite, Internet, Red Books data base usage. Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication ability.

Compensation consists of a base salary and percentage of sales with an upside potential for any sales goals that are exceeded. This is a part-time position requiring at least 25 hours per week. The job allows for work from a home office with regular meetings conducted in person or by Skype.

About the Position: Senior Manager, Marketing & Partnerships

As the company’s lead marketer, the marketing manager will strive to dramatically increase user engagement, shaping the first-time user experience, converting casual visitors into daily users, and daily users into multiple product & premium service customers. To succeed in the role, the successful candidate will need to be an expert at devising and executing high-return campaigns that leverage social networks and communities, on-site marketing, and grassroots communication. This manager will be responsible for creating an understanding of user & usage metrics across organization, establishing and tracking communication channels, and oversee marketing partner relationships and ad sponsor programs. The candidate will work closely with business development, product management, integration partners, and our community management teams to these achieve goals.

An entrepreneurial and well-rounded marketer will do best in this role. The successful candidate must have an open and honest communications style and be effective at building consensus. This person should demonstrate credibility, exercise good judgment, and have strength of conviction to act decisively when necessary.

Skills: Candidates should have demonstrated success planning and executing marketing programs that drive audience growth for community-oriented businesses.  The candidate needs a proven ability to identify, prioritize and deliver programs that make an impact on the businesses, with a particular emphasis on consumer engagement.  Solid project management, analytical skills, and interactive direct marketing experience a must. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of related work experience.
